Present Perfect Continuous - So much fun!

Hi Level 3 Class and Other Fabulous Students;

Greetings!

Question:  How long have you been studying English?   I've been studying English all my life, for many years, since I was a baby!

The above is an example of the use of the present perfect continuous tense using time phrases, such as, "all, for, and since".

There are some very clear uses of the present perfect continuous for ongoing activities that started in the past and continue into the present, they have an unspecified start date and continue in the present.

As with the present perfect we use "all, for, and since" to create time phrases.

Here's a good explanation of the present perfect continuous, also called the present perfect progressive, with exercises from a website called Perfect English Grammar:

Enjoy!

Who was Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.?

Hi Class,

Monday we celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  He was a powerful civil rights leader and activist. He believed in peaceful protest. His leadership changed America by advancing equal rights in the US. Without the actions of the civil rights movement under his leadership, you would not be in this ESL class today, there probably would not be ESL classes at community colleges for free if it were not for MLK.

Here is a short video on his life and work.

What do you think about his leadership?  How does the civil rights movement of the 1960s affect you today? Think about it...

Best,
Teacher Bonnie
